Ungur riddari les Nálu
Nothing is more rewarding than reading a good children's book. And here is one, a beautiful work of art that draws on Iceland’s tradition of folktales and embroidery.
The story bears an important message: by changing our approach and attitudes to life, things that are destructive can be transformed to create peace and compassion. That is how we want the world to be.

nála – a knight's tale
Nominated for the Icelandic Literary Prize.
Knight Audacious travels the world on his agile horse waving his sharp sword. He fights everyone in his path:
people, trolls, ghosts and fire-breathing dragons.
Then one day he meets Nála ...
This beautiful adventure by Eva Þengilsdóttir helps children reflect on the topic of peace. It illustrates how "success" can be a double-edged sword – depending on the choices we make.
The book is written and illustrated by Eva and edited by Kristín Birgisdóttir. Book cover design and layout by Snæfríð Þorsteinsdóttir. Inspiration for the book is drawn from old Icelandic tales and embroidery.
Nála Exhibition, based on the book, was held at the National Museum of Iceland from January until March 2015. It was very well received and was awarded a grant from the Children’s Cultural Fund to take it to other parts of Iceland.
Published in Icelandic and English in October 2014
by Salka Publishing House and in German in September 2018 by Kullerkupp Kinderbuch Verlag.
